Thursday's fine. ...weird question, but are babies allowed in museums or is there a quiet rule in place or something? I haven't ever had to worry about it, but Kara works during the day and so I'm kind of... She found this little toddler out by the water and we've been taking turns with him while law enforcement looks for his parents, or whatever. I'm wondering if I should set up a sitter or if I can just bring him along. What do you think? Because Thursday works for me, but you know...there's that...
[ Which he totally forgot about when he initially reached out and he realizes that it probably means he's a little overzealous, but oh well. It's too late now. ]
We can postpone until you're not... babysitting. I don;t know about quiet rules, I don't think there's one, but it might be an added source of stress of you. Which is not what I'm looking to be.
Is he okay? Do you think he needs a check-up? I can look him over quickly if you want.
[ Derek deflates a little. He had a feeling she was going to say that once he realized he'd sort of put himself in a bit of a predicament. When Kara has the baby, sometimes he forgets that he has another turn to take with the baby, too. ]
Oh yeah, that's fine, too. You wouldn't be, for the record. An added stress, I mean. I actually kind of like having the kid around.
Oh...uh, I mean he seems fine but maybe that'd be good. I don't know if Kara thought of that. I know I didn't...when would be good?
[ She learns new things every day. Namely, that Derek would like to be a dad, apparently? ]
I don't mind waiting until you don't have the responsibility for us to go out. I feel like bringing a kid along might be... jumping the gun a bit ;)
can you bring him to the clinic? i'm here and open for a few more hours, so I can look him over quickly, but I can't leave the hospital for a while longer
I don't know about that... I've always liked kids, though.
Haha, all right, that's fair enough. Admittedly, I did not think it through before actually reaching out. I just knew I wanted to follow up and see if you still wanted to go out again.
I can bring him, yeah. I can head over there in a few minutes, it'll just take a little bit to get him all together and whatever. Don't worry about leaving the hospital for it, I'll come to you, Claire.

Did you think I wouldn't want to go out with you again?
[ Sure, he kinda shut her down, but he also seemed interested, and he was interesting, so she couldn't see a reason for her not to want to see him again. If only for the eye candy, anyway, because damn, Derek was fine. ]
cool. if you say he looks fine i'm sure he is, but he never hurts to check.
If I waited too long and gave you the opportunity to think I was "ghosting" (apparently that's the term for just moving on without a follow up?) on you, maybe.
[ The last thing he'd want to do is give her the idea that his suggestion of a follow up was lip service with no real interest attached to it. ]
I'll bring him by, because you're right. It's better to be safe than sorry. See you soon.
oh. well, I don't know. I mean, last time, intentions were made pretty clear, so I didn't expect much anyway. It was a very nice first date but I didn't think you'd want to follow-up anyway, because I came on too strong.
[ She doesn't mean it in a passive-aggressive way. It's just a sincere, honest assessment of their first date, to her, and it was on her, more than anything else. She spooked him then, and she wouldn't blame him for 'ghosting' her if he had. ]
was I wrong? I thought if we met up to go to the museum, it'd be as friends.
I just don't want to jump into anything. Back home, when I did that, it usually ended in the people I cared about being slaughtered. Here, so far, when I've done it, it means that once I'm invested, she goes back home. So it's not for lack of interest. I'm just...taking it slower this time.
[ It's the most honest and open he's been about this to anyone since he realized the subconscious reason behind why he's been doing it. She deserves to know, especially if she thinks it's because she scared him away or he's just not that into her. ]
If I wasn't interested, I would've said so. I'm interested...if you don't mind being patient. If you don't want to, then we can just be friends and that's fine, too, but yeah...I'm interested.
[The key that Claire had left with him had been treated like a treasured possession. He's still not feeling strange, as far as he knows, but he still goes and puts in his shift, then heads to the grocery store for what he needs. When he's fully stocked up, he heads to her place and gets himself comfortable, making sure that everything is ready for the morning when she comes home.
There's an alarm set and he goes outside to smoke before heading upstairs to draw a bath with lavender bubbles, puts on a pot of coffee, and then strips himself down to nothing but a pair of sinfully tight boxer-briefs. Only once he's ready does he send her a text and a photo of himself, sprawled on top of her covers, angling the camera to be as flattering as possible.]
[ It's been a painfully long shift. Not just because of the anticipation, knowing that Vasquez is at her place. At least, it's blissfully quiet, as Cadelle nights tend to be. Which, in a way, makes the waiting worse, feeling the minutes tick by one by one, setting a strain along Claire's shoulders.
It's light out when she gets Vasquez's text, making her laugh as she sits at the nurse's station, holding a steaming cup of coffee. He does look extremely good on her sheets, and she is definitely going to speed through the Cadelle empty streets when she gets out. ]
another 5 minutes and I'm out of here
[ And she is, too, clocking out as early as she can, not wanting to be dragged into pulling a longer shift. She's at her place in under ten minutes, the streets completely empty, and she's jogging up to her apartment, making her way in quietly. ]
[He hasn't moved from the bed, texting and surfing through a few sites while she's on her way, and he hasn't put a single lick of clothing back on. Stretching out, he absently drapes a hand over his head, one knee bent as he adjusts on the bed, smirking and running the other hand over his chest (he's going to need to get waxed soon, it's getting out of hand).]
In here, querida. The question is, do you want breakfast now or after I take care of you?
[ Claire steps in through the bedroom, leaning against the doorframe, just taking in the sight. Man, but it's lovely, to see him like this, comfortable on her bed, so attractive it makes her stomach clench.
And then he says after I take care of you, and Claire lets out an involuntary moan at the words. ]
I'm not really hungry, right now. [ She lets her bag slip off her shoulder, taking a few steps towards the bed to put a hand to his knee. ] What have you planned for me?
[He sits up, enough to crook his fingers towards the bed, his knees parted so he can reach out and grab both of her hands, yanking her onto the bed with him. Grinning into a kiss, he cups her face, not willing to let her out of his hold just yet. Soon, but not yet.]
How about you start on your back and I give you a bit of a shoulder rub?
[He knows it's something he always wants when he's home from work, too exhausted to do anything but grab a beer and collapse in a chair.]
[ Claire sighs contently in his kiss, freeing a hand to cup his jaw, fingers running over his stubble. She lets out a hum at the mention of a shoulder rub, eyes staying closed for a moment as she savors the words, a smile on her face.
Then she extricates herself from his hold, somewhat reluctantly, but it's only to get rid of her jacket, and then her shirt, dropping them onto her bedroom floor, leaving her in her bra as she lies back next to him. ]
What, you coming home to a handsome man offering you a shoulder rub, breakfast, and inevitable sex? Not to burst your bubble, querida, but I don't think you're alone.
[He gently nudges at her until he can get her lying face-down on the bed, working his thumbs into her shoulders to really start to dig in, wanting to ease as much tension as he can while they're here.]
[ She huffs out a laugh, her eyes closing as she moves on the bed, lying down with her face in her arms, letting Vasquez's callused fingers dig into her shoulders, eliciting noises of relief. ]
Inevitable sex? Now that's presumptuous, babe.
[ Her voice is teasing, the smile on her face staying firmly there even when he presses against a particularly tense spot, making her wince for a second. ]
So, if I were to offer you a good morning lay, you'd be turning me down? No, I don't think so.
[He might be boasting and overly confident, but at the same time, he also knows himself well enough to know that he can provide very well. Working his hands slowly over her skin, he grins as he takes his time with her, leaning down to brush her hair off her neck, leaving a kiss.]
Or maybe I'm just here for a massage, draw you a bath, make you breakfast? I'd be very sad to be used for only that.
You do know you're not entitled to sex just because you're doing something nice to me, right?
[ Despite her smile, she means it. Even if she actually totally plans on getting all up on that because she enjoys it immensely, that's something he feels like he has to say. ]
Didn't think the nice things were why I was getting sex, I figured the sex was because I'm just so damned handsome that I can make you thirsty with it.
[He digs his thumb a little more into her neck, mainly because he knows she's right. It's always a perk to get laid, but it's not something he thinks he's ever owed. He's not like some other men he knows in that (ones that he can't really recall, like a veil is over his memories, for some reason).]
[ She laughs, her body shaking with it a little. ]
Yeah, yeah, alright. You're just too damn hot for your own good. Now put your back into it.
[ The words are cheeky, and she doesn't actually mean that he's doing a bad job, because he isn't. She can feel herself melting a little into the sheets, his hands warm against her skin, a little rough, just perfect. ]

comes with the job
[ She's been patient with Matt, back home. She was patient with Vasquez, here. Derek's just another one. ]
It's just good to know where I stand, you know? But I'm happy to take things one day (date) at a time.
